Artificial Intelligence has made its way into the classroom and the AI cover issue was our way to tell that story to alums and friends of the college. We knew we would have to explain and use AI to help with the cover art and story. AI was considered to be the “new frontier” and I thought why not use that as a prompt for AI to build the main cover image.
I’m not sure what came first the headline or the prompt. “Navigating the virtual frontier” ended up being the headline but it was also the beginning of my prompt to have Firefly, Adobe’s AI tool, to build my image. A compass also needed to be included as a nod to Wheaton’s Campus Curriculum.
The inside spread an AI-generated main image that was similar to what was on the cover. As I was starting to play around with different styles of the main prompt it came to me. Why not show different iterations of the same prompt? Showing the reader what can be possible with AI.
Below is the opening spread of the AI cover story with 16 different stylized versions of the same prompt. I had about 8 to 10 more stylized version that I didn’t use because they were too similar to some others.
